Drinking Horn Mead Hall

Route 66 mead flights and Viking horns in downtown Flagstaff

About

Tucked beside the train tracks in downtown Flagstaff, Drinking Horn Mead Hall trades the usual brewery-town lineup of IPAs for something older: mead, poured by the flight or the bottle, in a Viking-leaning hall that leans into the theme without overdoing it. With a 4.9-star rating from 466 Google reviews, it's one of the most consistently loved stops on Route 66 through Flagstaff.

What to expect

The draw here is the sheer range — reviewers mention around 25 rotating mead options, each built from honey, yeast, water, and a different mix of fruit or spice, landing somewhere between a dry white wine and a rose. Staff are known for walking newcomers through a flight and explaining what makes each one different, and yes, they'll hand you a drinking horn (and a Viking helmet, if you ask) for the full effect. The New Mexican variety gets called out often by regulars, and mead bottles are sold to go if you find a favorite.

Good to know

  • Hours: 11 AM–10 PM Sunday–Thursday, 11 AM–11 PM Friday and Saturday
  • Location: 108 E Route 66, Flagstaff
  • Extras: trivia nights draw a crowd — arrive early for seating

It's a fun detour on the way to or from the South Rim, especially for anyone curious about mead who's never tried it — several reviewers say they walked in skeptical and left converts.

While on vacation, we decided to stop by Drinking Horn Mead Hall for some mead, and we were met with an absolutely incredible experience! We were lucky enough to have Zac as our server, and he was fantastic. He walked us through the entire menu (including the secret menu item, the Long Boat 😉), helped all six of us find a few favorites, and shared how everything was made. You can really tell how much passion goes into what they do. After tasting so many amazing meads, I ended up walking away with three bottles! I highly recommend this place not only because the vibes are immaculate, but because the mead itself is genuinely high quality. We don’t live in Flagstaff, but we’ll absolutely be back every time we visit. Huge shoutout to Zac for making our visit so memorable. If you have the opportunity, I can’t recommend this place enough!

I was visiting Flagstaff for my birthday this past weekend and we popped in to try some mead! The staff was sooooo welcoming, attentive, and informative. We had a great time and the mead was delicious! One of the staff asked if I wanted to wear a Viking helmet and hold a horn, ummmm yes…of course I want that 😂.
