A casual pint stop by Bright Angel Lodge
Fred Harvey Tavern is the casual bar attached to Bright Angel Lodge, a short walk from the rim in Grand Canyon Village. It's a first-come, first-served stop for a beer and something quick rather than a sit-down dinner destination — the kind of place hikers duck into after coming off the Bright Angel Trail.
Reviews are mixed on the food, with several visitors calling it a decent spot for a simple burger, quesadilla, or sandwich but not much more — this isn't fine dining, and a few reviewers found the kitchen inconsistent and service slow during busy periods. Others enjoyed the lively atmosphere and found the staff friendly despite the wait. As with most South Rim dining, prices run higher than you'd expect off-site.
Treat it as a convenient refuel after a rim hike, not a destination meal — go in with modest expectations on the food and you'll likely leave satisfied.

At each place we went, the staff were incredible. Even during peak business, they were attentive and considerate. For the food, you need to consider that it needs to have a long shelf life due to the location. That being said, the food is awful. I recommend bringing your own food from a grocery store or ordering something extremely plain. There are not healthy options, and you can tell the salad is from a bag.

If you find yourself in the Grand Canyon and you’re looking at Fred Harvey Tavern just know that the bison burger may not have any seasoning on it, the burrito won’t be a little bit like cardboard with decent steak inside, a plain chicken sandwich still had sauce on the bottom, unfortunately for my daughter, the kid chicken tenders were OK but a little thin, the things that raise the rating up a little bit are the fry basket and the fries are delicious. Just go for the fries is my only advice. The chips and queso the queso is basically ballpark queso with tomatoes on it, not ideal. Do not recommend the queso either.

We ate dinner 1 night and lunch another day. Both times the service was unbelievably slow. Always had to flag somebody down to place an order. The staff were all complaining about all kinds of things. We had a good burrito and quesadilla the 1st day. The second time we had some chips with salsa and guac. We got a basket of chip crumbs and the guac had no flavor at all. When we mentioned the basket of crumbs, the waiter said he was sorry but made no attempt to get us a new one.

This is a great late night option in Sedona, everything closes so early, but they stay open a bit later. Food was really good and the service was excellent, and who doesn’t love a nice cold beer after a long road trip.

Wasn’t expecting much food wise here as our experience in these places so far have been disappointing. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The chicken club sandwich and hot honey chicken burger were good. We had a bit of a wait but didn’t mind as the food was fresh and tasty.
