Frontier Barbeque & Beer Garden

Slow-smoked barbecue and a beer garden patio on Route 66

$$$$Williams, AZ

About

Frontier Barbeque & Beer Garden is a casual smokehouse just off Route 66 in Williams, the kind of place travelers stop into on the way to or from the South Rim and end up lingering longer than planned. With a 4.1 rating from over 860 reviews, it's built a loyal following for slow-smoked meats and a genuinely relaxed atmosphere.

What to order

Pulled pork and shredded brisket sandwiches show up again and again in reviews as the standouts, along with the Frontier burger for anyone not in a barbecue mood. Full racks of ribs get praise for being tender without falling apart, and the platter option is popular for sharing. Sauces are set out table-side so you can mix your own combination. There's a rotating craft beer selection too, including stouts, giving the beer garden half of the name some weight.

The vibe

This isn't a sit-and-rush kind of stop. The patio has cornhole and a ping pong table, and on cooler evenings the outdoor seating gets heaters, so it stays comfortable later into the night.

  • Hours: 11 AM - 9 PM, daily
  • Price range: $$
  • Location: 730 W Route 66, Williams — an easy stop before heading up to the South Rim

Service gets called out often enough in reviews to be worth mentioning if you want a table with good energy rather than just fast food on the way through.

Order inside and they bring it out to you. My wife’s pulled chicken was good. I ordered brisket and it was dry, I retired it and got shredded brisket and was much better. I would come back. Nice place. Outside seating.

First time here. Great hangout for Route 66 visitors and families. Bbq and sandwiches, nachos 2. Games to play outside while you wait. Fresh and unique beers on tap. All different kinds of seating. Friendly staff and clean facility. Stop it is worth it especially if you have kids that need to run around. Enjoy route 66 and this is a nice edition.

I ate here with my wife and three kids along with a friend and her two kids. My wife and I ordered the partner platter with ribs, pulled pork, pulled chicken, with corn bread and tater tots as our sides. Our kids got the Mac & Cheese. My wife and I loved our meal, our normally picky kids who don’t love anything, devoured their Mac & Cheese. The environment was perfect for families. They had ping pong, corn hole, connect four, and gem mining. Our kids had so much fun and keep asking us to go back because they had so much fun, especially the gem mining!

A prime location within the town of Williams, Arizona. A lovely outdoor setting with an indoor bar for those who get chilly, and various recreational activities for a pleasant time with friends and/or family. The food was good, and the atmosphere is the best part of this place. I'll definitely be back; I had a great time.
