About

Frontier Barbeque & Beer Garden is a casual smokehouse just off Route 66 in Williams, the kind of place travelers stop into on the way to or from the South Rim and end up lingering longer than planned. With a 4.1 rating from over 860 reviews, it's built a loyal following for slow-smoked meats and a genuinely relaxed atmosphere.

What to order

Pulled pork and shredded brisket sandwiches show up again and again in reviews as the standouts, along with the Frontier burger for anyone not in a barbecue mood. Full racks of ribs get praise for being tender without falling apart, and the platter option is popular for sharing. Sauces are set out table-side so you can mix your own combination. There's a rotating craft beer selection too, including stouts, giving the beer garden half of the name some weight.

The vibe

This isn't a sit-and-rush kind of stop. The patio has cornhole and a ping pong table, and on cooler evenings the outdoor seating gets heaters, so it stays comfortable later into the night.

  • Hours: 11 AM - 9 PM, daily
  • Price range: $$
  • Location: 730 W Route 66, Williams — an easy stop before heading up to the South Rim

Service gets called out often enough in reviews to be worth mentioning if you want a table with good energy rather than just fast food on the way through.

Good experience at this restaurant. The dishes were delicious. A nice bonus was the gold panning activity in the restaurant.

Absolutely awful experience — avoid My family and I (2 adults and 2 children) chose this restaurant for our first meal in Williams, and unfortunately it was an extremely disappointing experience. We ordered two Mac & Cheese dishes and two sandwiches at the bar and paid for everything upfront. We also left a $10 tip, which I was perfectly happy to do at the time. After this experience, however, I certainly won’t be tipping before I’ve actually received the food and experienced the service. When our food arrived, we were given two chilli con carne bowls instead of the two Mac & Cheese dishes. We immediately explained that this was not what we had ordered. My daughter is allergic to the ingredients in the chilli, so there is absolutely no way we would knowingly have ordered it for her. Instead of simply correcting the mistake, we were confronted by the manager, who was extremely rude and accused us of lying about what we had ordered. She had taken the order herself, so presumably something had been entered incorrectly in the system. Rather than acknowledging that a mistake may have been made, she continued insisting that we had ordered the chilli. What made the situation even worse was the way she spoke to my 11-year-old daughter, who was understandably upset because of her allergy. To be accused of lying when we were simply explaining what we had ordered was completely unacceptable. We were then told we had to pay an additional $6 for the Mac & Cheese, despite already having paid for the meal and despite the incorrect food being entirely their mistake. We had already paid for the chilli bowls, which were cheaper, so we expected to simply pay the small difference. Instead, we were charged $6, which made absolutely no sense. The customer service from the manager was, quite honestly, disgraceful. Mistakes happen in restaurants — we completely understand that. What matters is how you deal with them. A simple apology and correction would have been enough. Instead, we were made to feel like we were dishonest customers trying to get something for free. I genuinely regret leaving the $10 tip before receiving the service because, in my opinion, the manager absolutely did not deserve it. We will not be returning, and I will also be contacting the company directly to make a formal complaint about the way we were treated. There are plenty of lovely restaurants in Williams where you can spend your money and be treated with basic courtesy and respect. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. If you don’t want to be spoken to like you’re lying when you’ve simply reported a mistake with your order, go somewhere else.
