Perched on the South Rim, this casual Southwestern-themed establishment in the historic Bright Angel Lodge is a convenient stop for anyone staying in or passing through Grand Canyon Village.
The Harvey House Cafe is a place to meet and to enjoy a casual old-fashioned setting almost like our grandmother's kitchen, where we decided on breakfast and dinner on our last full day.
Upon entering, my partner and I were greeted by the host and were led to a table facing the parking lot decorated vibrantly with colored transom panels on the windows, exposed wood beams, and brightly colored mosaic tile work throughout. Seating is first-come, first-served.
Their menu features breakfast, lunch, and dinner with an emphasis on diner-style cuisine. They are very popular for breakfast, for which we decided on the Harvey Skillet, Fruit Cup, and Harvey Breakfast. For dinner, we ordered the Harvey Salad with Chicken and Fish & Chips.
The food was way better than expected for breakfast, using the freshest ingredients and well seasoned. The downside for dinner was that the Fish & Chips were very oily.
Prices were not outrageous, especially given one is in a touristy area. Portions were healthy. Our server, Natalya, was attentive and friendly for breakfast. She went the extra mile to make sure our dining experience was special and memorable. The place was spotless—everything looked and felt clean, which is always a plus.
We saw the not so stellar reviews, but decided to try anyway.

We ordered an SW Protein Bowl, a chicken Quesadilla & some Chicken tenders with fries and it was all pretty good and came out pretty fast even though they were very busy.
The views were spectacular as you could imagine and they’re located within the hotel which has other shops etc.

Our group dined at Harvey House Café, nestled within the vibrant Bright Angel Lodge. This restaurant offers a breathtaking view of the Grand Canyon. Our waiter, Matt, was exceptionally kind and attentive, ensuring our comfort throughout the meal. He even assisted our guide. As a party of 13, Matt managed to keep us well-catered to.
I savored the steelhead trout, which was incredibly delicious, flavorful, and fresh. The combination of rice and vegetables was a delightful add to the fish as sides . For our appetizers, we had wings and queso dip with chips. However, the queso dip lacked the authentic taste of traditional queso, resembling nacho cheese sauce from a jar.
Despite this minor disappointment, the ambiance of the café was pleasant, and the views of the Grand Canyon were simply unbeatable.
The Harvey House Cafe has a lot going for it, but unfortunately the food fell way short of expectations.
The place was spotless—everything looked and felt clean, which is always a plus. The staff was genuinely amazing: friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. They were quick to check on us and even offered suggestions with enthusiasm.
But the food… oof. We ordered the tamale dish because it sounded incredible on the menu—authentic-sounding ingredients and all—but it was a huge disappointment. Bland, off flavors, just not good. I took two bites and couldn't continue. My son got the Western spaghetti, and same story: the sauce was completely tasteless, like it was missing every seasoning imaginable. We both left most of our plates untouched.
That said, the fish and chips were legitimately great—crispy batter, fresh-tasting fish, and the fries were solid too. It was the one bright spot on the table and honestly the only thing that kept this from being a 1- or 2-star experience.
So, amazing atmosphere and service, one standout dish, but the rest of the food was a real miss. I'd probably give it another shot for the fish and chips alone, but I'd be very careful ordering anything else off the menu.
Horribly slow service - wesat down for more than 10 minutes and no one came to take our orders or drinks, and the restaurant isnt even that busy, there are plenty of empty tables and we saw other tables that sat down later than us have been served.
The food was very disappointing. I ordered the spaghetti western which is the meatball spaghetti - it cost around $20 and it came with TWO meatballs only, and the taste is worse than a neighborhood Denny's.
I will not recommend anyone coming here, especially if youre hungry looking for a good meal after a wonderful hike.
