Harvey House Cafe

Old-fashioned Grand Canyon Lodge eatery with exposed wood beams & classic diner fare.

About

Harvey House Cafe is the casual, all-day option tucked inside Bright Angel Lodge, just steps from the rim itself — exposed wood beams overhead, a diner-style menu, and some of the easiest canyon views you'll get with a plate in front of you. It's not fine dining, and it doesn't try to be; it's the grab-a-booth-and-eat spot for people who'd rather spend their planning energy on the trail than the reservation.

What to expect

The menu leans classic American diner with a few Southwest touches — reviewers point to the steelhead trout and the fish and chips as standouts, while dishes like the tamale plate and queso dip get more mixed reactions. Service tends to be a genuine bright spot: staff are consistently described as friendly and attentive, even when the dining room is packed with a full lodge's worth of hungry hikers.

  • Location: inside Bright Angel Lodge, Grand Canyon Village, on the South Rim
  • Price range: $$ (moderate)
  • Hours: open daily in three windows — roughly 6:30-10am, 11am-3pm, and 4-9pm
  • Rating: 3.6 stars from over 1,000 Google reviews

Treat it like what it is: a convenient, canyon-adjacent cafe for breakfast before an early trailhead start or a quick dinner after a long day on the Rim Trail, not a destination meal. Stick to the proven dishes and the location does the rest of the work.

Best restaurant to eat at while visiting the Grand Canyon! The burgers are huge and delicious. The fish is very good and you get a huge portion of fries. Our server was tremendous and we would definitely go back.

Horribly slow service - wesat down for more than 10 minutes and no one came to take our orders or drinks, and the restaurant isnt even that busy, there are plenty of empty tables and we saw other tables that sat down later than us have been served. The food was very disappointing. I ordered the spaghetti western which is the meatball spaghetti - it cost around $20 and it came with TWO meatballs only, and the taste is worse than a neighborhood Denny's. I will not recommend anyone coming here, especially if youre hungry looking for a good meal after a wonderful hike.

I felt racially discriminated against at this restaurant because I was Asian. The restaurant staff put my family at the corner end table when all the other guests dined at the main hall and there were abundant seats there. The food felt like it was from the early 2000s and definitely overpriced.
