Mountain Top Tap Room

Downtown Flagstaff's go-to taproom for craft beer and hot dogs

About

Mountain Top Tap Room sits right on historic Route 66 in downtown Flagstaff, and it's built its reputation on two things: a serious rotating beer selection and hot dogs that reviewers keep coming back for. With a 4.7-star rating from 220 reviews, it's one of the better-loved taprooms in town, and the vibe is easygoing rather than fussy — a place where the bartenders know regulars by name but tourists get the same warm welcome.

What to expect

The draft list changes often enough that regulars come back to see what's new, and the food menu is small and focused rather than trying to do everything. The Chicago-style hot dog gets singled out repeatedly in reviews, made to order on an actual hot dog cooker — reviewers note it takes about 20 minutes to come out, which tells you it's not a warmer-tray situation. Pets are welcome, seating is plentiful, and the crowd is a mix of locals and Route 66 travelers passing through.

  • Hours: evenings Monday–Thursday (opens 5pm), midday-to-late Friday–Sunday
  • Location: 10 E Route 66, downtown Flagstaff, easy walking distance from the historic district
  • Good for: a low-key beer stop with a genuinely good bar snack, not a full sit-down dinner

Flagstaff has plenty of breweries, but this one earns its following on service and consistency — worth a stop if you're exploring downtown after a day at the canyon.

Bartender was awfully rude and unapologetic towards international folk. Despite resolving a misunderstanding around acceptable IDs that literally took a cop to come down. She never offered an apology. Literally just ruined an entire night for me and friends.

The staff falsely accused me of using a fake ID and refused entry. They held my ID until I called the police. When the officer arrived, he verified that my ID was legitimate. Even after being proven wrong, the employee simply walked away without any apology or acknowledgment of the mistake.

When you go to a dog friendly bar during open hours and it’s closed (during the weekend)

Great bar with a cool atmosphere and very good beer. The hot dogs are really good, but unfortunately you always have to wait a bit longer for them to be prepared.
