Puebla Sunrise Café

Downtown Flagstaff's mole-driven breakfast favorite

About

Puebla Sunrise Café is a relatively new addition to downtown Flagstaff's breakfast-and-brunch lineup, and it's already earned a devoted following — a 4.8 rating from nearly 400 Google reviews is hard to come by for a spot this young. Mole is the house specialty, made in-house by the family that owns the place, and regulars call it some of the best in the state.

What to order

The menu leans into both Mexican breakfast classics and American brunch staples. Reviewers point to the mole chicken omelet, chilaquiles, and a carnitas cemita with well-rendered, crispy-tender pork as standouts, alongside café de olla and a lineup of pancakes, waffles, and Nutella crepes for anyone craving something sweeter. Coffee refills come often and the salsa verde gets called out for being well-balanced rather than just hot.

  • Location: 2 S Beaver St, downtown Flagstaff, a few blocks from the historic Route 66 district
  • Hours: daily, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM — breakfast and lunch only
  • Vibe: warm, family-run, described by regulars as community-oriented rather than corporate

It's walkable from most downtown Flagstaff lodging, which makes it an easy stop before or after a day trip to the South Rim, about 80 miles north. Service is consistently praised as attentive, and portions run generous, so come hungry.

Good flavor, however, for $16 I feel that the huevo rancheros should come with hash browns and bacon. The rancheros at the downtown diner used to come with both and I feel a little underserved by this. I will be returning however I will not be getting the rancheros again

Came for breakfast, amazing scratch made food, mole, salsas and other sauces all made from scratch and delicious! Very reasonably priced and great sized portions! Staff were very attentive and courteous, HIGHLY recommend. Not going to lie, I took the leftover salsa to go, THAT GOOD!

What a wonderful breakfast experience! We stopped by this hidden gem in the heart of Flagstaff, and everything exceeded our expectations. The chilaquiles were absolutely outstanding—fresh, flavorful, and easily some of the best we’ve had. What truly made our visit memorable was the warm hospitality. The owner personally came out to greet us, shared a little about herself and the restaurant’s story, and made us feel genuinely welcome. That personal touch made the experience even more special. If you’re looking for authentic, delicious Mexican breakfast in a convenient central location, this place is definitely worth a visit. We’ll absolutely be back the next time we’re in Flagstaff!
