Spenser's Pub

Historic hotel bar with pub classics near the Grand Canyon Railway

(296)
Williams, AZ

About

Spenser's Pub is the bar attached to the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel in Williams, built around a genuinely old back bar that's worth a look even if you're just passing through. It's a pub-food menu rather than a full steakhouse spread, which suits its role: a place to grab a solid meal or a beer after stepping off the train rather than a destination restaurant in its own right.

What to order

Reviewers keep coming back to the Reuben sandwich, and the Canyon Pie — a shepherd's-pie-style dish — gets called out as flavorful, if a bit light on meat. The draft beer list draws praise too, and if the local honey is on offer, ask for a sample before you buy. Expect sandwiches and appetizers rather than heavier entrees; it runs more lunch-and-evening pub fare than a dinner-reservation kind of place.

  • Rating: 4.2 stars (296 Google reviews)
  • Hours: daily, 4:00 – 10:00 PM
  • Location: 235 N Grand Canyon Blvd, Williams — inside the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel

Service reviews are mixed — most visitors report a solid pub experience, though at least one reviewer described a long wait tied to the bar running short-staffed. For hotel guests, it's an easy, no-walk option; for anyone else in Williams, it's a convenient stop for a sandwich and a local beer before or after a Grand Canyon Railway run.

Great place to have drinks and super friendly staff. Unfortunately, the food was horrible. The wings were okay. Both son and grandson left the pizza. The Italian sub wasn’t edible. The homage chips were so stale. The chicken Cesar salad wasn’t edible either. The romaine lettuce was wilted, the chicken had a foul smell. I was so surprised that such a nice pub, had the audacity to serve food like this. If you’re just having drinks, I highly recommend it. For food, don’t waste your time and money. So disappointed.

The ruben sandwiches were very good, so we had them on 2 nights. Also had the Canyon Pie one night (like Shephards Pie), which was quite flavorful but was lacking in meat. A nice variety of draft beers which were good, and we also bought some local honey! Ask for a sample, it is DELICIOUS. Overall a good choice, but not superb.

Enjoyed our meals and time there. Food we had was prompt and more than acceptable. Only negative is the menu is more pub and down size than you may find online. Sandwiches and appetizers, not steaks and more. Which given all the options guests will likely encounter on their exploration of the area is understandable. More lunch than dinner - which they are not open for. The old bar is beautiful and worth a visit. If staying in the hotel it's a worthy stop if you don't want to walk.

Surprisingly good service and food. Not great but hit the spot. A couple of cold beers, chilli and cottage pie.

I can’t say anything about the food or drinks. But we walked in on a Friday night on spring break and they had one server and one bartender working. Two dirty tables. Many tables that had people sitting there with no drinks. I started helping clean tables as I’ve been in service for 18 years. Bartender yelled at me said she would take care of it. We left without eating or drinking.
