The Cave Cafe

A shaded açaí-bowl stop next to Moqui Cave on the road to Kanab

Kanab, UT

About

The Cave Cafe sits about 10 miles east of Kanab on Highway 89, right next to Moqui Cave, and it's earned a devoted following for something you don't expect out here: genuinely good açaí bowls. Reviewers consistently call the açaí base smooth and well-balanced, with a homemade-tasting granola that keeps people coming back. It's a shaded, easygoing stop with picnic tables, grassy areas, and plenty of parking — the kind of place you pull into for a quick refreshment and end up lingering.

What to order

  • Açaí bowls — the cafe's signature and most-praised item
  • Sandwiches, including the "Montezuma's Treasure" (a Monte Cristo-style favorite)
  • Smoothies — mango with prickly pear is a popular add
  • Coffee, cocoa, and other light bites for the road

Service can run a little slow at busy times, but reviewers say the quality and fair prices more than make up for it. With a 4.4 rating from nearly 100 reviews, it's a reliable stop whether you're heading toward the North Rim on Highway 89A or coming from Kanab. The cafe is open daily from 9am to 5pm, closed Sundays — worth timing your drive around if a mid-route bowl or sandwich sounds good.

We ordered multiple Paninis and smoothies. All food was better than I was anticipating and my two oldest kids enjoyed the Italian Panini with the marinara dipping sauce. The sodas were ice cold and sandwiches were reasonably priced. Only two people working and there was a big order before us and we had a big order for 8 of us. The wait for food to be made wasn't long. This hit the spot after our ROAM outdoor tour.

A highly recommended stop for a quick refreshment if you're traveling along Highway 89. The café offers coffee, fruit smoothies, sandwiches, hot chocolate, and more. The spot is pleasant, with shady trees, picnic tables, grassy areas, restrooms, and ample parking. If you like, you can also visit the Moqui Cave right next door (entrance fee applies) or the Sand Caves a little further south (free). We enjoyed the iced coffee; it was a perfect refreshment on a sunny October day!

Highly Recommend!!! Well worth the stop! The food and coffee hit the stop. They also have a pretty cool cave and area to explore.

Delicious food with healthy options. I pulled in , curious about the museum. I was on my way to a higher rated restaurant, but it just goes to show that you shouldn’ put that much weight on a .3 or .4% difference. The grilled cheese was fantastic as was the Akai.bowl they probably get some bad ratings because it’s not super fast service, but it’s a really pretty place to wait for getting high qualoty at a fair price.

Looked for brunch options in Kanab all morning, this clears anything in the city proper. Worth the drive for the great sandwiches and cool atmosphere! Go 100%
