Cowboy-style steaks cooked over the fire, steps from the South Rim

About

Yippee-Ei-O! Steakhouse leans hard into its name — this is a cowboy-themed steakhouse right in Grand Canyon Village, the kind of place where the steaks are cooked over an open fire and the cornbread comes out warm. It's a solid option for refueling after a day on the rim, with a casual, down-home dining room and a menu built around grilled meats.

What to expect

The signature move here is steak cooked "the cowboy way" over open flame, alongside ribs, burgers, grilled chicken, and pork chops. Reviewers consistently call out the cornbread and the beans as standouts, and portion sizes get decent marks for the price. Service tends to be friendly and quick to seat, even for larger groups — one visitor mentioned bringing a party of 19 with no trouble splitting checks. Like any restaurant serving thousands of travelers a year, quality can vary between visits, so it's worth going in with reasonable expectations rather than fine-dining ones.

  • Location: 541 AZ-64, Grand Canyon Village
  • Hours: Open daily, 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM
  • Price range: $$
  • Good to know: gratuity (around 15%) is typically included on the bill

It won't be the most refined steak you've ever had, but it's a filling, no-fuss meal within walking distance of the South Rim after a long day of hiking or sightseeing.

Tourists BEWARE. Do not go to this restaurant if you want an authentic steak house experience. This restaurant is a tourist trap designed to overcharge you for terrible food. I ordered the cowboy steak which is supposed to be a 12oz sirloin steak. It was a rump steak as it was very gristly and didn’t look anything like a sirloin cut. There’s a running theme of this restaurant, everything is under seasoned. And the steak is the first offender, the potato is a large boiled potato with NO seasoning wrapped in foil (you get a small pot of sour cream with it). The corn on the cob I received was genuinely inedible. I am in awe a sentient human being put that on my plate and expected me to eat it. Yellow steamed mush on a cob, why is it not grilled? And of course not a grain of a salt. And finally the cowboy beans, sad beans cooked in a thin sauce that bare no smoky flavour or spice. Is there a salt embargo at the Grand Canyon? The staff are not like any other restaurant I have visited here in the US, They are inattentive and uninterested. They are aware of how terrible the food is and their only goal is to part you with your money. Absolutely zero questions were asked when I left the majority of my plate. And they generously add a 15% tip on for doing absolutely nothing. To conclude, if like me you have traveled thousands of miles to enjoy American food do not waste an evening meal on this establishment.
