Freaky Foot Tours: Flagstaff Walking Tours

Flagstaff's history, art, and hauntings, on foot

(709)
Flagstaff, AZ

About

Freaky Foot Tours runs walking tours through downtown Flagstaff that dig into the city's history, art, and, yes, its darker stories — and with a 5.0 rating across nearly 700 Google reviews, they've clearly figured out how to keep a group engaged for an hour or two on foot. This isn't a Grand Canyon tour outfit; it's a stop for travelers basing out of Flagstaff who want context on the town itself before or after the drive north.

What's on offer

Guides lead small groups through the historic downtown core, covering the architecture and characters that shaped Flagstaff, the local mural and art scene, and a well-reviewed ghost tour that leans into the city's haunted reputation without getting cheesy about it. Reviewers consistently call out specific guides by name — Jamie for the art tour, Morbid Mike and Revel for the ghost tour — and praise how well-researched and paced the storytelling is rather than rushed or gimmicky.

  • Location: 212 W Aspen Ave, in downtown Flagstaff, easy walking distance from the historic district
  • Good for: travelers overnighting in Flagstaff who want an evening activity or a way to learn the town's backstory
  • Booking: tours run on a set daily schedule — check freakyfoottours.com for current times and which tour is up next

Flagstaff sits about 80 miles south of the South Rim, making it a natural place to spend an evening before or after a canyon day, and a walking tour is a low-effort way to fill one without needing a car.

Very informative and eerie! It was just my wife and I- might have been better in a larger group.

A lovely, entertaining, well informed tour through Flagstaff's historic downtown. I can away with a better understanding of the fantastic arts community of this city.

This is an amazing, not-to-be-missed, attraction in downtown Flagstaff. We are tourists there, but there were locals on the tour enjoying it also. Attractions like this put Flagstaff into an elite category of tourism, letting us into the local vibe. Our tour leaders were just fabulous. Six stars!

Excellent knowledge. Great history and personalized, first person anecdotes about the artists. Very patient with us slower visitors. 10/10 would recommend.

Good guide, but the tour itself is underwhelming I really wanted to enjoy this tour. I’ve taken ghost tours in New Orleans, Boston, Washington, D.C., and other cities, and they’re usually one of my favorite ways to experience the history and personality of a place. Our guide, Sean “Blue Eyes,” was very good. He’s an engaging storyteller, projects his voice well, keeps a comfortable pace, and did a nice job with the material he had. My disappointment was not with him—it was with the content of the tour itself. There simply wasn’t enough compelling history, atmosphere, access, or storytelling material to make this feel like a memorable ghost tour. Most of the experience was walking around downtown, stopping outside various buildings, and hearing relatively mild stories. I kept waiting for the tour to build into something more interesting or immersive, but it never really did. If you’re looking for something to do in Flagstaff and would enjoy an evening walk downtown while hearing a few local stories, this can be a pleasant way to spend some time. But if you’ve experienced strong ghost tours in cities with richer historical content and are expecting something similarly atmospheric or memorable, I would significantly lower your expectations. Sean was good. Unfortunately, the tour itself just doesn’t give him enough to work with.
