K-Hill Trail

Kanab's easy rim-top hike with big views and a small footprint

Kanab, UT

About

K-Hill Trail is Kanab's easy neighborhood hike, a short out-and-back that climbs the sandstone rim overlooking town for views most visitors don't expect from a trailhead this close to Main Street. It's 2.5 miles round trip, foot, pedal-bike, and horse traffic only (no e-bikes), and it's rated 4.6 from 60 Google reviews — locals use it for a quick morning run, visitors use it to stretch their legs before or after a day at the Grand Canyon's North Rim, roughly 80 miles south.

Getting there

The most common access is off the Estancia subdivision at Lader Street, and the trail is open 24 hours. There's a small parking area and a trail information board, but not much else on site — the Kanab Visitor Center is about 0.4 miles away if you need restrooms, water, or maps before or after. The trail winds along the base of the cliffs and around toward Pugh Canyon, taking its name from the large "K" visible on the hillside above town.

  • Distance: ~2.5 miles round trip
  • Access: On foot, bike, or horse — no e-bikes
  • Nearby: Kanab Visitor Center, 0.4 miles

It won't take all day, but the layered sandstone and open desert views make it a worthwhile stop if you're staging in Kanab before heading north toward the canyon rim.

Great little local trail with outstanding views. We accessed off of Estancia subdivision at corner of Lader St. We t just aways before encountering Tom's Canyon cut-off (hike it tomorrow) onabout .5 mile We were under the K that's visible throughout Kanab and on around to Pugh Canyon. Easy trail with the best views, no e-bikes, only on foot, pedal bike or horses allowed.
