Guided backcountry tours from Kanab into North Rim country

(1,912)
Kanab, UT

About

Kanab Tour Company runs guided excursions out of Kanab into the high-desert backcountry that surrounds the North Rim, from White Pocket's swirled sandstone to the slot canyons and overlooks near Bryce. With a 5.0 rating across more than 1,900 Google reviews, it's one of the most consistently praised outfitters in town, and guests specifically call out guides like Trevor, Shelly, and Dan for patient, knowledgeable driving and storytelling on rough backcountry roads.

What they run

  • White Pocket tours — side-by-side and guided access to the swirling rock formations, with stops for photos along the way
  • Peekaboo Canyon half-day trips — a slot-canyon excursion reviewers describe as an adrenaline rush the whole family can handle
  • Multi-day and custom itineraries, including trips that reach the North Rim itself for visitors without high-clearance vehicles

This is the outfit to call if you want the far-flung terrain around Kanab and the North Rim without navigating unmarked dirt roads yourself — reviewers repeatedly mention guides sharing real geology and history along the way, not just driving. Book ahead in peak season since the small-group format sells out.

It was so much fun. Kelly was a pro, providing excellent instruction and instilling confidence in our driving skills on the technical runs. She also added great insights during our slot canyon hike.

Let me start by saying that Kanab Tour Company has incredibly patient front desk staff! I threw about 100 questions at the woman who booked our tour, and she did an excellent job answering them all while being honest about my 'must-see' list and providing lots of information about other activities in the area. We booked a SxS adventure and visited Peek-a-Boo Canyon, White Wave, and the Great Chamber. Our guide, Trevor, was fantastic. He was informative about each place we explored, hiked right along with us, offered to take pictures, and then stepped back to give us time to explore independently. My biggest concern with booking a timed SxS tour was feeling rushed, but at no point did Trevor rush us along, which I am so grateful for. My husband, who is an avid ATV rider, also loved Trevor’s riding style—it provided us with plenty of fun and excitement on the trails!" If your thinking about booking, do it! I highly recommended seeing Peek-a-boo, its a beautiful slot canyon without the crowds. We were also amazed with The Great Chamber.

I highly recommend! My boyfriend and I did the 5pm tour with Tanner and we enjoyed every bit of the tour ( my boyfriend is not usually into tours). The tour itself was very scenic and has GREAT PICS! Tanner was very knowledgeable when it came about the surrounding area and had lots of information about the history in Utah and the canyons. Would definitely do another one of thier tours again!

My husband and I booked the White Pockets tour this past June. I had forgotten that the drive to White Pockets was two hours to and two hours back so that really gave us time to get to know our guide Trevor. He was a great guide and very informative with things to do in the area of Utah and Arizona as he guided different tours for Kanab Tour Co. At White Pockets he was great about helping me as I am 70 with a bad leg. He allowed me to set the pace and made sure I was okay on the unleveled ground. He had me put my hand on his shoulder to help guide me on the rocks which was a great help. The stone formations and coloring were so bizarre and cool. We have nothing like this in the east for sure. I would recommend this tour with Kanab Tour Co.

Dan was our tour guide for the ATV tour and Coyote Buttes/White Pockets hike. We are not avid hikers, nor are we in any shape to be hiking in yalls heat there but Dan was so patient and encouraging to our family during the entire day!! He had a great sense of humor and was so fun and knowledgeable about the area, animals, and terrain.
