About
Mather Point Amphitheater is a native-limestone, open-air venue built into the rim just northeast of Grand Canyon Visitor Center, funded by Grand Canyon Conservancy donors specifically as a dedicated space for ranger programs. Seating for roughly 50-80 people faces an open view across the canyon toward Zoroaster Temple and Bright Angel Canyon, so the setting does some of the work before a ranger even starts talking.
What's held here
- Daytime ranger talks, including geology and wildlife programs
- Evening programs during the warmer months, when schedules sometimes run alongside separate programs at McKee Amphitheater the same night
Good to know
- Location: a short walk northeast of Grand Canyon Visitor Center, near Mather Point itself
- Cost: free
- Schedule: posted at the Visitor Center, on village bulletin boards, and in the park's seasonal "The Guide" newspaper — programs aren't offered every night, so check before planning around one
Since it sits right next to one of the most popular sunrise and sunset spots on the South Rim, it's easy to combine a program here with either end of the day.
