Toadstool Hoodoos Trailhead

A short, easy walk to some of the strangest rock formations near Kanab

About

Toadstool Hoodoos Trailhead sits right off Highway 89 between Kanab and Page, marking an easy out-and-back hike to a cluster of sandstone hoodoos capped with harder rock that make them look like stone mushrooms balanced on narrow stems. It's a short trip — about a mile round trip and 20 to 30 minutes each way — over mostly gentle terrain with one or two rockier steps near the top, so it works for casual walkers as well as anyone squeezing in a stop between the North Rim and Kanab. The trailhead parking area sits along the highway, and the path is easy to follow to the main formations, with more hoodoos scattered around if you want to keep exploring once you're up top.

What to expect

  • Distance: roughly 1 mile round trip, 20-30 minutes to the hoodoos
  • Terrain: loose sandstone trail with a short climb near the end
  • Best light: early morning works well for photos and cooler temps
  • Season note: spring visitors have found wildflowers along the route

With a 4.7 rating across nearly 1,200 reviews, it's a reliable quick detour — visitors consistently describe it as an easy, photogenic stop worth the short walk rather than a destination hike in its own right.

Great park, we just didn't have time to hike this trail.

Fun and little unusual hike right off the highway! Trail is sometimes difficult to follow (for an old man) but getting up close to the hoodoos and having them all to yourself was great!
