About

TrekWest Tours of Arizona runs small-group Grand Canyon trips out of Flagstaff, and the reviews point to one consistent reason people book them twice: the guides. Wes shows up again and again in traveler feedback as the guide who turns a day trip into an actual education on the canyon's geology and history, not just a shuttle ride with a photo stop. With a 5.0 rating across its Google reviews, this is a small, guide-driven outfit rather than a big-bus operation.

What to expect

Trips depart from Flagstaff and combine the drive out with a guided hiking experience at the canyon, led by staff who reviewers describe as knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely passionate about the landscape. Multiple reviewers mention returning for repeat trips or requesting Wes specifically, and one longtime guest notes he's guided for other outfitters when they were short-staffed, which says something about his standing in the local guiding community.

Based in: Flagstaff, AZ, on Route 66
Hours: Monday-Thursday and Saturday 7am-8pm, Friday 8am-7pm, closed Sunday

Worth booking ahead through their website, especially if you want a specific guide — the reviews make clear that's part of the draw here.

My Grand Canyon experience with TrekWest Tours was absolutely incredible. Wes was nothing short of a true professional from the moment we left Flagstaff all the way through the Grand Canyon adventure. His driving was safe and professional, and he guided the hiking experience with patience, knowledge, and a great attitude.e Wes made me appreciate the beauty and wonder of the Grand Canyon even more. His knowledge about the canyons, their formation, and the history surrounding them was uncanny. He explained everything with so much passion and clarity, which made the entire experience even more fascinating and memorable. The views were breathtaking, the hike was unforgettable, and the entire trip was well organized and enjoyable from start to finish. I highly recommend TrekWest Tours to anyone looking for a memorable and stress-free Grand Canyon experience. Thank you, Wes, for such an amazing adventure!

I’ve gone on several tours with Wes and/or his company over the years, and the experience has always been outstanding. The customer service is second to none, and Wes brings an incredible amount of knowledge about the Grand Canyon from every angle. He’s personable, friendly, and clearly passionate about what he does. If you’re looking for an unforgettable experience at the Grand Canyon, I would highly recommend Wes and his team!

Our guide, Wes, was knowledgeable and congenial. He was attentive to our comfort and amenable to our preferences throughout the tour. His passion for the history of the Grand Canyon, as well as his understanding of the geology, were quite impressive

Wes was instrumental in guiding me the first time I had a chance to truly visit the Grand Canyon. Later, having owned another tour company, I had the good fortune to have Wes guide for me when we were short handed. He is an incredible guide with great attention to the needs and expectations of his guests. If there were 6 stars available I would give Wes a and TrekWest Tours a 6.

I cannot recommend Wes's tours highly enough. He is the perfect mix of professional and personable and he made our family visit to Arizona truly one of the best trips we've ever taken. I especially appreciated his deep knowledge of the canyon, I learnt so much! This is clearly a place he loves and his enthusiasm to share it with others is really special.
