Bright Angel Point
The North Rim's iconic overlook, currently closed for fire recovery
About
Bright Angel Point is the North Rim's signature overlook, a narrow limestone promontory reached by a short paved path that starts near the site of the historic Grand Canyon Lodge. On a normal season the walk covers less than a mile round trip out to a fenced viewing area with 270-degree views into Bright Angel and Roaring Springs Canyons, with Deva, Brahma, and Zoroaster Temples visible to the southeast and The Transept opening to the west. As of the 2026 season, the trail out to the point itself is closed due to damage from the 2025 Dragon Bravo Fire.
What's accessible now
- The Bright Angel Point Trail is currently closed.
- Nearby, on the east edge of the developed area, picnic tables still offer views into Roaring Springs Canyon and toward the Colorado River.
- Other North Rim viewpoints remain open for day use, including Point Imperial, Cape Royal, Angels Window, Roosevelt Point, and Vista Encantada.
There is no overnight lodging on the North Rim for the 2026 season. Check the park's current North Rim status page before you plan around this specific overlook.
