About

Bright Angel Point Trail is the short, paved walk from Grand Canyon Lodge out to Bright Angel Point, long the most-visited overlook on the North Rim. The path follows a narrow ridge at the tip of the Bright Angel Peninsula, with steep drop-offs on both sides and a few short, surprisingly steep pitches despite the pavement. Along the way the forest changes fast, from the cool spruce-fir of the Kaibab Plateau to stunted pinyon-juniper in the space of a few hundred yards, a shift that would normally take a much longer drive south to see. From the point itself, look across to Deva, Brahma, and Zoroaster Temples and out over the Walhalla Plateau.

Current status

Bright Angel Point Trail is closed for the 2026 season due to Dragon Bravo Fire impacts. Crews are working on repairs, and the burned terrain above the trail carries real hazards after storms, including rockfall, debris flows, and flash flooding. The North Rim itself reopened for day use on May 15, 2026, with the campground open since June 1, but check the park's current trail-status page before planning around this one.

What to Know

  • From the point, when open, the view takes in Deva, Brahma, and Zoroaster Temples and the Walhalla Plateau — worth returning for once repairs are complete.
  • Storm-driven hazards above the trail (rockfall, debris flow, flash flooding) are a real, ongoing risk in burned terrain, not just a reason for the closure itself.
  • Check current status before a North Rim trip, since this is one of several trails affected by ongoing repair work.
