Grand Canyon Village Greenway
The paved path that ties Grand Canyon Village together
About
The Village Greenway is the paved, car-free path connecting the Grand Canyon Visitor Center to Grand Canyon Village along Village Loop Road, part of the South Rim's roughly 13-mile network of Greenway Trails. It's flat, fully paved, and open to walkers, cyclists, Class 1 and 3 e-bikes, and wheelchair users — one of the few places in the park where bikes are allowed off the roadway.
What it's for
This isn't a scenic showpiece like the Rim Trail; it's the practical spine of the developed South Rim, threading through ponderosa, pinyon, and juniper woodland between the visitor center, lodges, and village services. Watch for elk, mule deer, and the occasional California condor along the tree-lined stretches. Bright Angel Bicycles at the visitor center rents bikes and runs a small café, and the free park shuttle buses (equipped with bike racks) stop at points along the route, so you can pedal one direction and ride back.
- Fully paved and flat — suitable for families, strollers, and wheelchairs
- Connects to the Rim Trail and other Greenway spurs toward Tusayan and South Kaibab Trailhead
- No permit needed; this is a developed-area path, not a backcountry trail
Best Time to Use the Greenway
This paved, developed-area path is usable year-round; no permit or seasonal access restriction applies the way it does on backcountry routes.
