About

Monument Creek Vista sits on Hermit Road about 3 miles west of Grand Canyon Village, looking straight down into the deep side canyon carved by Monument Creek. From the paved overlook you get a direct sightline to Granite Rapid churning on the Colorado River far below, plus views across to named formations including Isis Temple, Cheops Pyramid, and the Tower of Set. It's one of the better spots on Hermit Road for that classic combination of river, rapid, and temple-and-butte scenery in a single frame.

Getting there

  • March through November, the overlook is reached via the free Red Route shuttle (about a 15-minute ride from the village); private vehicles are allowed on Hermit Road only December through February.
  • The paved viewpoint has benches, stone seating walls, and bike racks, and is wheelchair accessible.
  • No restrooms or water on site — nearest facilities are at Hopi Point or Hermits Rest.
  • It's also the eastern end of the Greenway Trail, a paved path that runs about 2.8 miles west past Pima Point to Hermits Rest — figure 20-30 minutes just for the overlook, or 2-3 hours if you walk or bike the full trail.

Best Time to Visit
