Page Spring

A shaded spring off the Grandview Trail, near the old Last Chance Mine on Horseshoe Mesa

Grand Canyon interior, AZ

About

Page Spring, also called Miner's Spring on older trail descriptions, is a small seep tucked into a shaded alcove off the Grandview Trail on the South Rim, reached by a short spur that branches from the main trail near Horseshoe Mesa. Ferns and moss line the back of the alcove where water drips into a shallow pool only a few feet across.

What to know before you fill a bottle

Page Spring is one of the few water sources along this stretch of trail below Horseshoe Mesa, but the water carries high arsenic levels and must be filtered or treated before drinking regardless of how clear it looks. The pool itself is small and can run to a trickle, so it isn't a source to count on without a backup plan.

  • Reached via a signed spur off the Grandview Trail, which descends from Grandview Point on the South Rim toward Horseshoe Mesa
  • Near the historic Last Chance Mine on Horseshoe Mesa, where old mining relics remain from copper prospecting in the 1890s
  • Water must be treated due to naturally high arsenic content, not just typical backcountry contaminants

The mining history is real and close by: the Grandview Trail itself was built by miners in the 1890s to reach the copper claims on Horseshoe Mesa, and the spring's original name reflects that use.

Best Time to Visit

The pool itself is small and can run to a trickle, so treat it as unreliable regardless of season and don't count on it without a backup water plan.
