Residential Loop
A quiet, paved loop through the South Rim's village streets
About
The Residential Loop is a paved, roughly 2-mile walking loop through the employee housing area of Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim, part of the park's broader Greenway Trail System that links the village to the visitor center and, eventually, Tusayan. Elevation change is minimal — this is flat, easy walking, not a canyon hike.
What to expect
- Fully paved surface, level grade, suitable for strollers and wheelchairs
- Stays within the village's residential streets rather than canyon terrain or rim overlooks
- Popular with park staff and residents for a quiet walk, run, or dog walk away from the main tourist corridors
It's not a scenic-viewpoint hike — there's no canyon exposure along the route — but it's a useful, low-effort option for stretching your legs, especially in the evening after a longer day hike below the rim, or as an easy loop for anyone not ready for the exposed, waterless inner-canyon trails nearby.
Best Time to Walk It
Popular in the evening after a longer day hike below the rim, since the flat, low-effort loop works well when you're too tired for more elevation change.
