About

Roosevelt Point sits on the North Rim's Cape Royal Road, just under 2 miles past Vista Encantada, and it's easy to miss if you're not watching for the pullout. A short walking path -- 0.2 mile round-trip, about 20-30 minutes at a relaxed pace -- leads through overgrown rim vegetation to the overlook, where a rock bears a Theodore Roosevelt plaque marking the site named for the president's conservation efforts. A USGS medallion marks the trail's end.

What you see

The view opens east over Kwagunt Valley directly below, the Colorado River Gorge cut through red cliffs, and colorful rock layers stacked toward the horizon. On clear days the Painted Desert is visible in the distance, and turning north brings Point Imperial into view.

  • Pullout parking is limited and single-lane; RVs and vehicle-trailer combos over 22 feet are prohibited on Cape Royal Road
  • No elevation gain to speak of -- a flat rim walk, not a descent

The North Rim reopened May 15 with limited services; check current conditions before you go, as post-fire hazards and weather can still trigger temporary closures.
