About

Roosevelt Point is a short, easy walk on the North Rim, about 0.2 miles round-trip from a small pullout on Cape Royal Road, just under two miles beyond Vista Encantada. Allow 20 to 30 minutes. The path is level and shaded through pine and fir before opening to an overlook named for Theodore Roosevelt, whose 1908 proclamation gave the canyon early federal protection.

What you'll see

The view faces east across a deep side canyon, with layered red and buff rock walls dropping toward the Colorado River Gorge and the Painted Desert visible in the distance. Turn north and you can pick out Point Imperial. A trailside rock carries a Roosevelt quote urging visitors to leave the canyon as they found it.

  • Parking is limited to a single-lane pullout — arrive early or expect to wait for a spot
  • Cape Royal Road restricts RVs and trailer combinations over 22 feet
  • The North Rim reopened for the season on May 15 with limited services; no potable water at this stop
