South Entrance Spur
A quiet link route near the South Entrance
About
The South Entrance Spur is a short connector route near the park's South Entrance, on the approach road that funnels traffic in from Highway 64 toward Grand Canyon Village. It's not one of the park's marquee named trails, and you won't find a mileage or difficulty rating for it on NPS trail pages or in standard hiking references — it functions as a link path rather than a destination hike in its own right.
What to expect
- Flat, developed South Rim terrain typical of the entrance corridor, well above the inner canyon
- No rim views along this stretch — the canyon itself isn't visible until you reach the actual rim overlooks further north
- Best treated as a way to reach the Village and Rim Trail rather than a hike destination
If you're headed here for canyon views, continue on to Mather Point or the Rim Trail proper, both a short drive north near the Visitor Center.
Best Time to Use It
As a developed connector route, this is usable whenever the South Entrance itself is open, with no separate seasonal restriction.
