Tusayan Mounain Bike Loop 703

An 8.3-mile forest loop just outside the South Rim gate

Grand Canyon interior, AZ

About

Loop 703 is an 8.3-mile mountain bike loop in the Tusayan Ranger District of Kaibab National Forest, just outside the South Rim entrance gate. The route follows old logging roads through ponderosa pine forest rather than the exposed rim terrain most visitors picture when they think "Grand Canyon" — this is a forest ride, not a canyon-view ride. It's part of a small trail cluster with neighboring loops #126 (1.1 miles) and #702 (17.2 miles), so riders looking for a shorter or longer day have options nearby.

What to expect

  • Trailhead and parking are at the Tusayan Ranger Station entrance right off Highway 64, a few miles before the park's south entrance gate — easy to combine with a Grand Canyon day trip.
  • Terrain is mostly old double-track logging road winding through forest, with a good chance of spotting elk, mule deer, pronghorn, or wild turkeys along the way.
  • No water sources or amenities at the trailhead, so carry what you need.
  • Open to biking, hiking, and horseback riding.

Best Time to Ride Loop 703

Forest shade here makes it more comfortable in warmer months than exposed rim trails, though carrying water still matters since none is available at the trailhead.
