Tusayan Mountain Bike Loop 702

A 17-mile forest loop through the pines outside Tusayan

(0)
Grand Canyon interior, AZ

About

Trail 702 is the longest of the three connected mountain bike loops in the Kaibab National Forest just outside Tusayan, a 17.2-mile circuit that follows old logging roads through open ponderosa pine forest. It sits south of the national park boundary, not inside the canyon itself, and gives riders a forested alternative to the paved Greenway trail closer to the rim.

The trail system

Trail 702 links with two shorter loops at the same trailhead: Trail 126, a 1.1-mile loop, and Trail 703, at 8.3 miles. Riders can combine any of the three depending on how much time and distance they want, which makes the network workable for a quick spin or most of a day.

  • Trailhead access is at the Tusayan Ranger Station area off Highway 64, before the park entrance gate
  • Surface is old logging road, not singletrack
  • Open to mountain biking, hiking, and horseback riding — no motorized vehicles
  • No water or fees at the trailhead
  • Wildlife along the route includes elk, mule deer, hawks, and eagles

Because these trails run through forest rather than canyon terrain, there's shade for most of the ride, but riders should still carry their own water — none is available on site.

Best Time to Ride It

Because these trails run through forest rather than canyon terrain, there's shade for most of the ride, making warmer months more manageable here than on exposed rim trails.
