Grand Canyon interior, AZ

About

The Village Greenway is the paved, mostly flat path running roughly 2.5 miles between the Grand Canyon Visitor Center near Mather Point and the Bright Angel Trailhead/Lodge area in Grand Canyon Village. It's part of the park's larger Greenway Trail system, built to give walkers and cyclists a way to move along the South Rim without competing with shuttle buses and traffic on the main park roads.

What to expect

  • Paved surface, easy grade, with only minor elevation change along the route
  • Open to both walking and biking; bikes can be rented near the Visitor Center at Bright Angel Bicycles
  • Several road crossings where the path meets park roads
  • Stretches away from the roadway are a decent bet for spotting mule deer
  • Dogs are not permitted on this trail

It's a connector more than a destination hike — useful for reaching the historic district, Bright Angel Trailhead, or the Visitor Center on foot or by bike, and for linking up with the rest of the Greenway system toward South Kaibab Trailhead or Tusayan.

Best Time to Use It

Paved and easy-grade, this route is usable year-round regardless of season.

Trail Tips

  • Several road crossings where the path meets park roads — watch for shuttle and vehicle traffic.
  • Stretches away from the roadway are a decent bet for spotting mule deer.
