Vishnu Trail #125
A quiet forest loop with rim views near Grandview Tower
About
Vishnu Trail #125 is a short loop through ponderosa pine and oak forest on the Coconino Rim, just outside Grand Canyon National Park in Kaibab National Forest. The trailhead sits at the historic Grandview Lookout Tower, and the loop runs about 1.1 miles, heading out to a viewpoint on the rim before looping back along a stretch of the Arizona Trail.
What to expect
- An easy, mostly level walk on a natural-surface trail — a good stretch-your-legs option rather than a canyon descent
- A rim overlook with views north toward the Grand Canyon, framed by trees rather than the wide-open panoramas of the park's developed viewpoints
- Interpretive signage along the way covering the forest's plants and wildlife
- No water at the trailhead or along the route — bring your own
Because the trail sits in the national forest rather than the park itself, it's quieter than the rim trails near the main South Rim developed area, and it pairs naturally with a climb up the 80-foot Grandview Lookout Tower before or after.
Best Time to Hike It
An easy, mostly level walk usable year-round; pair it with a climb up the 80-foot Grandview Lookout Tower before or after for a fuller stop.
