About

Widforss Trailhead is on the North Rim and marks the start of the Widforss Trail, an out-and-back route that follows the rim of Transept Canyon before dropping into ponderosa pine and aspen forest on the way to Widforss Point. From the rim stretch near the start, the trail opens onto views across the canyon toward South Rim landmarks and formations such as Buddha Temple and Isis Temple. The trail is named for Gunnar Widforss, a Swedish landscape painter who worked in the park in the 1930s.
