About

Best Western Red Hills sits right on Kanab's main highway, which makes it an easy, reliable base for the roughly 80-mile drive up to the North Rim. It's a straightforward, well-run hotel rather than a boutique stay, and the 4.3 rating across 1,220+ reviews backs that up — guests consistently point to friendly, attentive front-desk staff and clean rooms as the reasons they come back.

What's Included

  • Complimentary hot breakfast and parking
  • 24-hour fitness room
  • Hot tub (pool availability can vary seasonally)
  • Family suites with separate room configurations

One returning guest called it a "perfect location to visit the North Rim," and that's really the draw: you're staying in a real town with restaurants and gas stations nearby rather than pushing straight through, and Kanab's position also puts Zion, Bryce, and the Vermilion Cliffs within reach if you're stringing together more than one park on the trip. Reviewers note the breakfast varies from a standout spread to a more basic continental setup depending on the day, and housekeeping has had the occasional off night, but the overall pattern is a dependable Best Western with a staff that goes out of its way — including for guests rolling in well after midnight.

Hotel is dirty, with smelly rooms (carpet smells moldy and dirty) we found a roach in the shower, and had a mouse in one of the rooms. The breakfast is sad, outdated and dirty. Some of the staff is qualified, however there are a few people that have never heard of hospitality in their life. We communicated that we had found a rodent in our room, and they did not apologize or offer any type of help. The lady said “oh wired”. The grill was filthy, the washer made our clothes dirtier and the dryer did not work.

The region is magnificent, the rooms are clean and beautiful, the receptionist is very friendly and smiling, the pool is great, and the arcade is also very nice. I highly recommend it.

Great halfway point to stop on my drive between AZ and UT. It's towards the middle of the town strip and offers great access to shops and restaurants within waking distance. It was really confusing to find the office when I pulled in at night. It's closest to the main street in the east building (NW corner). The property is pretty spread out. There's a few buildings with guest rooms and a pool/hot tub in the middle (we didn't use it so I can't comment on it but it looked nice and there were other guests using the hot tub). Check in was easy, although I was charged for the room when my balance at time of booking was $0 because I used rewards cards. And no this wasn't the hold in case of incidentals. I was also charged that. When we got inside the building there was definitely an odor. I'm not sure if it was lingering cigarette smell combined with something else or what. The room itself was spacious and clean, albeit very dated. The mini fridge wasn't mini at all, I was surprised how big it was. There wasn't a microwave in the room but there was one in the hallway by the elevator (not a huge deal). I loved the little private balcony with a beautiful view of the red rocks. The breakfast area is massive. Probably one of the biggest I've ever been in. They had the typical items: waffles, sausage, eggs, breads, oatmeal, cereals, juice and yogurt. Nothing extra to make it stand out but there was plenty of everything and an attentive attendant. There were a ton of tables and chairs and even a little game room with a pool table, ping pong and an arcade game. There's a little flyer in the room for something Lasso snack bar. You could scan a QR code for the menu. I thought it was available from the front desk (says open 24 hours, special requests, all the things, etc). I went to the front desk to ask if they had Easy Mac and mentioned the flyer in the room with the QR code and was told there wasn't a little onsite store, it was just whatever was available in the vending machines but the pool. Very misleading. Also, the only ice machines are located by the pool (none inside the main building) of which only 1 was working. Only issue I had (other than being charged) was that I requested a late checkout when I checked in. The lady told me 12pm was fine. Shortly after 11am someone entered our room and told my SON that checkout was at 11 and we needed to pack up and leave. My daughter and I were down the street checking out some shops. I was really irked by that. There wasn't a Do Not Disturb/Privacy Please sign or magnet for the door, but I wasn't originally concerned because the gal the night before said she would note it down and even had me repeat my room number to her. All in all it was ok for 1 night. Would I stay here again? Probably not.

We stayed for three nights, and this was our first time traveling with our dog. The hotel made the process very easy, which we really appreciated. The room was nice overall. I'm not sure the A/C was working properly, but the weather was pleasant enough that it wasn't a big issue. One thing that did make me laugh was the sign on the ice machine that read, "Do not use ice machine to fill up ice buckets." Isn't that what it's for? Check-in was quick and easy, and the two front desk attendants were both very friendly. I let them know I had my dog with me, and because I had paid for part of the stay with points, my reservation email indicated I would owe a little over $200 plus the pet fee. After reviewing my reservation, they told me I only owed $23. They mentioned they were using a brand-new system, so I assumed either my points had covered more than expected or there had been an error that would be corrected later. I figured if there was a mistake, someone would call me before charging my card. Instead, on the morning of checkout, I received a phone call at 7:20 a.m. telling me there was an issue with my card and that I needed to stop by the front desk before leaving. It turned out they had attempted to run my card for the remaining balance without notifying me first that the initial amount charged had been incorrect. I keep my cards locked while traveling, so naturally the transaction was declined. When I went to the front desk with my card, I explained that I had expected an additional charge but thought someone would contact me before attempting it. I was told the system processes charges automatically, although that explanation changed later in the conversation. I asked about the original $23 charge. A woman who appeared to be a manager (blonde, mid-40s, wearing a hat, Thursday 7/23 around 9:00 a.m.) initially told me it was the pet fee. I pointed out that the pet fee was $20 per night, totaling $60, so that didn't make sense. She then changed her explanation and said it was a pre-authorization. In my experience, hotels either charge me before arrival or collect payment at check-in, so the explanation still felt confusing. I mentioned that the employee who had checked me in was very kind and had said they were still learning a new system. That's when the conversation became uncomfortable. After I mentioned the employee by name, the manager said, "She's our newest staff member. She doesn't know anything." I tried to soften the comment by saying, "So she's still learning the new system?" The manager replied, "No, she doesn't know anything at all." I found those comments incredibly inappropriate. Speaking so negatively about an employee in front of other staff and guests wasn't professional, especially when the employee had been nothing but kind to me. While another staff member finished processing my payment, the manager continued discussing how my reservation would be used as a training example for the staff and the new system. It didn't feel like a conversation that needed to happen in front of a guest. There was also confusion about the final total. As I was adding up the charges out loud, I estimated the total would be around $290. The manager insisted I was wrong and said the total was simply the $270 they were about to charge. I reminded her that I had already paid $23 at check-in. She told me I was mistaken. Rather than continue arguing, I simply said, "Okay." A moment later, another employee confirmed that I was correct. Overall, the experience left me disappointed. The front desk staff who checked us in were friendly and welcoming, but the checkout experience overshadowed that. I was also surprised by how little value I received from redeeming points. Even though my reservation indicated they covered one night, I still ended up paying roughly $150 per night for the remaining two nights. Next time, I'll probably book through Expedia instead of worrying about earning or redeeming points.
