Simple cabins by a mountain spring, minutes from North Rim trails
Big Springs Cabin Site sits on the Kaibab Plateau north of the North Rim, a cluster of simple wood cabins built around a spring-fed pond and stream that make this feel more like a mountain retreat than a standard rental. Each cabin sleeps up to five on a wood-burning stove for heat, with a shared bathhouse and a well-stocked communal kitchen guests describe as clean and fully equipped — bring your own bedding and toiletries. Volunteer hosts live on site through the season and know the area well, from trail conditions to local history.
The Big Springs Tower Trail starts right from the cabins, a moderate 4-mile round trip with about 1,000 feet of gain to a fire lookout tower. Brow Monument Trail is a short, easy walk about ten minutes away. Both make a good add-on to a North Rim trip without backtracking far from Highway 67.
Book through Recreation.gov — the site typically runs through the same seasonal window as North Rim facilities, so check current open and close dates before you plan a fall trip.

Great place to stay if you like the north rim area. Warm and dry during bad weather. Showers were kept very clean. Only drawback is wish it was open until October 31st which is the normal close for the season date.

Very cozy cabins, very simple and well maintained, and taken care of. Common areas are very clean. Kitchen is my wife’s favorite, clean and full of dishes. Our host Arty was very friendly and helpful. He showed us a couple great hikes that we did and would recommend. One hike to the Big Springs Tower starts from the site and is about 4 miles round trip. It’s a mild hike with about 1000 feet elevation gain. Very rewarding at the end when you see the tower. The second hike is Brow Monument trail just about 10 minutes away from the cabins. Well maintained and a lot to learn along the way. Very easy and pleasant hike.
