About

Bright Angel Lodge sits right on the South Rim in Grand Canyon Village, and that location is the whole story: some of its rustic cabins put you close enough to the rim that you can walk out at sunrise without getting in a car. Built as a historic lodge with a mix of simple lodge rooms and freestanding cabins, it's earned a 4.4 rating from over 4,500 Google reviews, and the recurring theme in guest feedback is the same one that's drawn people here for decades — the view is worth the tradeoffs.

What to expect

Rooms and cabins are clean but simple; some cabins have private baths and TVs, while a number of standard lodge rooms share bathrooms down the hall, which is part of the historic charm rather than an oversight. On-site restaurants and a bar mean you don't have to leave for dinner, and the free park shuttle stops nearby, running frequently enough that reviewers note you don't need a car once you're settled in. The Bright Angel Trailhead is essentially outside your door, a convenient starting point if you're hiking into the canyon.

  • Location: 9 Village Loop Drive, Grand Canyon Village — directly on the rim
  • Rating: 4.4 stars, 4,500+ reviews
  • Good to know: parking is first-come, first-served; some rooms have shared bathrooms

Like all in-park South Rim lodging, Bright Angel books out months in advance, especially for rim-view cabins — this isn't a spot you can typically decide on last-minute. Book directly through the official Grand Canyon Lodges site to avoid third-party booking issues some guests have run into.

Bright Angel Lodge is a historic lodge located right on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. You can enjoy spectacular views of the Grand Canyon from the nearby viewpoints. The scenery was absolutely amazing, and it was a great place to take photos. There are also plenty of souvenir shops with a wide variety of Grand Canyon-themed gifts, clothes, accessories, and snacks. I enjoyed looking around and shopping. A train was also stopped nearby, which added to the atmosphere and made the area feel even more interesting. I tried the chocolate fudge from the shop. It was a little too sweet for me, but it was rich and delicious. The lodge itself has a charming, rustic atmosphere and a lot of history. It’s a great place to stop by while exploring the South Rim, especially if you want to enjoy the views, do some shopping, and experience a little bit of the history of the Grand Canyon.

The room was a bit small, but there was a fridge and coffee maker. The location was beautiful, right on the edge of the canyon, just steps from the red and blue bus lines. The staff was super friendly.

If only I could give a 10 for location. Built in the 1930s and designed by a female architect, these little lodge rooms are an amazing place to stay. No air conditioning. And they’re on the rustic side but that’s what makes them dreamy. 250 feet from the edge of the Grand Canyon. Such an amazing experience. Spiders can be removed with standard methods. We checked in with a new staff person from Alabama, she was delightful.
