Room was nice. The hotel itself was nice. The location was great. The air conditioning in our room didn’t work and the hot tub was full of sand, lots of sand, for our entire stay.

Unfussy lodging with indoor/outdoor hot tubs, an atrium & a buffet restaurant, plus a free shuttle.
Grand Canyon Plaza Hotel is a big, no-frills property just outside the park's south entrance in Grand Canyon Village — the kind of place travelers book because of where it sits, not because it's trying to be a boutique stay. With 2,889 Google reviews and a 3.9 rating, it's clearly one of the go-to fallback options for anyone who didn't lock down in-park lodging early, and reviewers consistently point to the location as the reason to stay.
The hotel has an atrium, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, and an on-site buffet restaurant, plus a free shuttle. Guests describe rooms as large and clean but dated — several mention older furniture and mixed climate control, so this reads as a functional, budget-friendly base rather than a luxury stop. The hot tubs get singled out as a genuine perk after a full day of hiking, and water filling stations for refilling bottles post-trail are a nice practical touch.
Because it sits right outside the South Rim entrance, this is a solid pick for convenience over character — book with the understanding that you're paying for proximity to the park, not a polished boutique experience.

Good hotel with comfortable and well equipped rooms close to the National Park entrance. I understand the location drives the price but was disappointed that at the price we paid breakfast was not included. UPDATE after 6 years we returned to the hotel as part of our US road trip. Sad to say the hotel has slipped even further. The rooms were extremely badly lit, it was almost impossible to see what you were doing. No hand soap was provided and only minimal toiletries, insufficient for our 2 night stay. The rooms showed signs of neglect with damaged furniture and peeling, missing sealant in the bathroom. On the positive side, beds were comfortable. Experience with staff was mixed, in general helpful and positive but in the Wagon Wheel bar, when I was served a cloudy lager ( the first I had wasn’t ) the waiter tried to tell me it was due to the glass being cloudy and not transparent, it wasn’t, as demonstrated by pouring it into the previous glass. The waiter showed no interest in helping us and did not return. Cocktails were served in Stella Artois glasses - which doesn’t really add to the experience of having cocktails. As far as dining is concerned, breakfast was good but individual items can be expensive. The loaded potato skins in the bar were disgusting - some of the worst food we have ever had. Potatoes were grey and the loaded cheap cheese made them completely inedible. We used the spa and hot tub - unfortunately this wasn’t very clean; it was full of grit and sand and therefore spoilt the experience we were hoping for. It’s a shame hotels like this appear to show such complacency towards their guests, particularly at the prices charged. Many guests will have spent considerable sums getting to the Grand Canyon and it is only right that the hotel experience should match the magnificence of the National Park. Investment in the hotel is much needed, as well as customer service trading for some staff.

Rooms were ok. Thin blankets. Loud air conditioner in our room. Room was clean though. Nice Indoor hot tub! Good size outdoor pool. The outdoor hot tub wasn't working during our stay. Lowish water pressure in the shower. Awesome welcoming staff. Walking distance, right next door, to the IMAX theater and shuttle to the Grand Canyon. Across the street from restaurants. We didn't try the on site dining options. Id stay here again if going to the Grand Canyon. About 10 to 15 minutes away from the Grand Canyon. As close as you're going to get without staying in the park. On site Washers and dryers were convenient.

The hotel is absolutely not worth the price. Way too expensive for those bad smelling, old rooms. Furthermore, the staff knocked on our door every 30 minutes in the morning of our 11 am check out starting at 9 and also stepping into our room and behaving weirdly. Would not recommend staying here. It feels unhygienic, not clean, old, mouldy and not beautiful at all!!
