About

This Holiday Inn Express sits on Lucky Lane in Flagstaff, about 80 miles south of the South Rim — a solid, predictable overnight base for the drive up to the canyon or a stop on the way through town. With a 4.2 rating from over 1,750 reviews, it's the kind of dependable chain stay where you know what you're getting: clean rooms, an easy check-in, and staff who show up in review after review by name.

What guests say

The front desk and housekeeping staff get singled out repeatedly in reviews — travelers mention specific employees going out of their way to help with directions and information for the area. Rooms are described as well-appointed and in good condition, with more than one guest calling it among the better Holiday Inn Express properties they've stayed at. The free hot breakfast draws mixed reviews — most call it good and well-stocked, though a few guests found the egg options underwhelming.

Amenities

  • Outdoor pool and a fitness room on site
  • Free Wi-Fi and free breakfast included
  • Easy access to I-40 for the continued drive north to the canyon

As with most chain hotels, room-to-room consistency varies — a couple of reviewers noted thinner walls or maintenance hiccups — but the overall pattern is a clean, well-run property with attentive staff, making it a reasonable, no-surprises pick for a Flagstaff overnight.

This is my second time staying in this hotel. The breakfast is fantastic, the location is good, except for the train that goes by every 10-15 minutes. Though I was on the top floor, so I barely noticed. The shower is so good, too. Too many of the hotels I've stayed at have barely adequate showers. Great value for the money.

My wife and I are staying here for a conference. We have stayed here before. We have several in our group with different rooms. One of their rooms had the window stuck open all night. One had all of her power in her room go out! I asked for our room to be cleaned and new towels stocked after the first day our room wasn’t cleaned, so I asked the room cleaning lady and showed her the room and came back to my room not being touched for the second day. Now out of towels. The room is not as clean as you would expect. The breakfast was pretty good. Except their “omelet” is less to be desired. It’s basically powdered eggs with liquid cheese in it. I probably would not stay here again.
