About

The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Williams sits in Arizona's historic Route 66 town, the departure point for the Grand Canyon Railway and a solid base if you'd rather stay in a walkable town than at the rim itself. It's a straightforward chain hotel: unfussy rooms and suites, free Wi-Fi, and free breakfast included in the stay.

What to expect

Reviews are mixed but land it at 3.9 stars from over 1,150 Google reviews. On the plus side, guests point to large, clean rooms, a fridge and microwave in every room, good water pressure, and courteous front-desk staff. On the downside, several recent reviews flag inconsistent housekeeping, a worn-in feel to some rooms, and service hiccups during busy or short-staffed stretches. Worth noting for anyone counting on it: the indoor pool has been closed with no confirmed reopening date, so don't book here specifically for a swim.

  • Location: 1150 Cataract Lake Rd, Williams, AZ — walkable to Williams' Route 66 downtown
  • Included: free Wi-Fi, free hot breakfast
  • Good for: travelers using Williams as a base for the Grand Canyon Railway or driving up to the South Rim

It's a budget-friendly, predictable chain option rather than a destination stay — read as a convenient overnight near the train depot, not a splurge.

I've stayed at Holiday Inn Express properties many times over the years, and this stay was the worst experience I've had with this brand, bar none. Let's start with the room. We booked based on the listing stating the room sleeps 6. What we got was a pullout couch with a twin mattress. A twin. For a room that supposedly accommodates six people. I don't know how Holiday Inn's math works, but it doesn't work for families. And that twin pullout? You could feel the springs through the mattress with the lightest touch. I have photos. Both queen headboards were in embarrassing condition, with large chunks of faux leather peeling off all over them. Again, I have photos. This is not normal wear and tear. This is a room that has not been maintained and should not be rented to paying guests. But the real low point was one particular staff member. I don't use the word "awful" lightly. This person was rude, dismissive, and completely indifferent to our concerns. No attempt to help, no apology, no accountability. It was stunning. I've given Holiday Inn the benefit of the doubt for years. Not anymore. Save yourself the frustration and book somewhere that actually delivers what it promises.

Ripped headboard in room. Dirty hallways. Beds are hard. Also to many devices that have little lights in room. Especially the smoke detector being on the ceiling right above the bed was so bright…The location in Bullhead city was so much better.

Needs renovated. Soft headboard scratched, no trashcan liners, slow drain sink, lamp shade broke, armore doesn't shut. Overall, dirty, carpet needs shampooed, shower grout needs cleaned. The hotel in general needs a complete scrub down. When the concerns were addressed, the comment was "oh, they're all like that" and "the new directive from IHG... housekeeping was told not to put a liner in the trash cans to only drape it over the side". Needed to flush twice. Impression of the bed was that it was haphazardly made as if the bedding was not changed.

Our room, especially the bathroom, was very dirty, so my wife had to disinfect the surfaces and the toilet. There were still noticeable stains from the previous guest on the toilet seat. The hallways had old, dirty carpets, and everything looked very neglected. The pool was unusable. The staff was friendly, but the hotel staff seemed severely understaffed. The location was too far from the famous downtown area.
