Kings House Motor Hotel

A clean, no-frills Route 66 stopover on the way to the canyon

(144)
Flagstaff, AZ

About

Kings House Motor Hotel is a straightforward roadside motel on Route 66 in Flagstaff, about 80 miles south of the South Rim — a practical stopover for anyone driving in or out of the canyon along I-40. It's earned a 4.3 rating from 129 Google reviews, with guests consistently calling out clean rooms, easy check-in, and friendly front-desk staff at a budget-friendly price.

What to expect

Rooms are simple but well-kept — typically two double beds, a separate shower/toilet, TV, desk, fridge and microwave. It's the kind of place built for a one-night road-trip stop rather than a destination stay, and reviewers repeatedly note it's a good value for the price. There's a coin-operated laundry machine on site, which past guests have used mid-trip.

Good to know

  • Location: 1560 E Route 66, Flagstaff — close to the airport (about an 8-minute drive) and the Amtrak station (about a 2-minute walk)
  • Trains: the rail line runs close by, and multiple reviewers mention hearing trains overnight — light sleepers should plan accordingly
  • Fees: guests have reported a separate incidental hold/charge at check-in worth confirming when you book

Not a luxury stay, but for a clean, affordable bed along the Route 66 corridor between Flagstaff and the canyon, it consistently delivers on the basics.

Horrible everything about it horrible extremely dirty and gross we're talking poop stains in the toilet and pubic hairs in the bathroom and in the shower. Didn't even have shampoo or any of that stuff out when we got there or towels too. Told them about it they didn't do anything at all. They didn't even come up and clean it after we told them. Also didn't offer us to switch another room either

Nice room, good experience. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars overall was because they don't have an overnight attendant. I personally would prefer the extra service and security to skimping a buck, but overall it was a good stay.

Adequate, but basic accomodations. The upsides: Affordable. Comfortable bed, working microwave and fridge, decent shower (no tub). Downsides, the room could have been cleaner, there was hair in the towels, on the floor, and in the shower. I had to kill a pretty sizeable bug in my room. The AC unit only has on and off modes so I had to get up multiple times in the night to turn it on or off. The lobby is only open during the daytime, so don't lock yourself out in the morning or evening like I did once. The rooms are pretty cramped. Other people have mentioned the train so I'll weigh in. It's across the street, but didn't bother me at all. However, I've never in my life seen a busier track. A 100 car train go past every 15 minutes, day and night. It's not like once or twice during the night, it's constant so if it would bother you, it'll be persistent. Overall, not sure if stay again. It was affordable, you definitely get what you pay for, or lack thereof. Maybe Ok for a one night stay on a tight budget.

Everything one needs in a budget motel! OK, it’s not a Hilton, it’s a budget motel. That said it is clean, the staff is friendly, the location is good and the parking is adequate. The rooms were as updated as older architecture would allow and my only suggestion is that rooms need a comfortable chair. Bathroom nicely updated, plenty of hot water with good pressure. Fridge and microwave, small TV. I was in town for a dog show and my 80Lb GSD didn’t raise any eyebrows. Lots of other dogs on property yet it was clean and everyone was respectful.
