About

Pinecrest Inn & Suites is a Route 66-era budget motel in Flagstaff, the kind of no-frills stop that works well for anyone road-tripping toward the South Rim (about 80 miles north) without wanting to pay resort prices along the way. It's a single-story property with a straightforward pitch: clean rooms, some with kitchenettes, Wi-Fi, and parking right outside your door.

What to expect

Reviewers consistently note the rooms are comfortable and well cared for, and the staff get repeated praise for being friendly and accommodating. A few junior suites come with a full-size stove, fridge, and sink — useful if you're trying to cut down on restaurant costs during a longer Arizona trip. The motel sits directly on Route 66, within walking distance of an IHOP and the post office, with a Texas Roadhouse and Sportsman's Warehouse nearby. One thing to plan around: the property is close to the railroad, and several guests mention hearing trains pass at night.

Good to know

  • Rating: 4.0 stars from 147 Google reviews
  • Amenities: Wi-Fi, parking, select rooms with kitchenettes
  • Location: 2818 E Route 66, Flagstaff — about 80 miles south of Grand Canyon Village
  • Note: no complimentary breakfast; confirm your total rate at booking, as at least one reviewer reported unexpected charges added at check-in

It won't be anyone's splurge night, but for a functional, well-located base camp before or after a South Rim run, it does the job.

Safe and peaceful experience, this is an older style route 66 motel type, it's not glitz and glam but if you are looking for friendly staff and clean rooms this is a really affordable option. I'll definitely be coming back.

When booked online, my reservation was ~$220 for 2 nights. After arriving to the hotel and checking in to pay, the cost had unexpectedly jumped to $390. When asking why it had gone up so much, I was told that it was due to unlisted state taxes on the website, and when I pushed back that it could not have been taxes of around 75%, the clerk pointed to the addition of 1 more person to the reservation. I can maybe understand why adding another person may cost extra, but suddenly $170? I have never been charged for an extra person, even at hotels where it may make more sense to have an additional charge per person, like those with complimentary breakfasts, which this hotel does not provide. Furthermore, we stayed in the same room that I originally booked with the same confirmation number. So, I don't think it was related to needing a larger room for the number of occupants or creating a new reservation with same-day prices rather than my reserved price. The clerk at the check-in desk was very insistent that the jump in cost was due to taxes and the extra person. To her credit, she called someone who could help and the price eventually went down to $290. We did end up staying at this hotel given prices nearby were higher by the time we arrived and were then told that the cost went up so much. However, if I would've known that this hotel was going to cost $70 more with such a hassle, I would've just booked somewhere else. In addition to not providing breakfast unlike many other hotels in the area, the bathroom was small and without any counterspace for toiletries, no exaggeration. One of my pillowcases was stained. Otherwise, the room was comfortable.

This is a route 66 heyday era motel. Nothing fancy. No 2nd floor. The bed was comfortable. The pillows were not that comfy. A positive experience for us. Keep in mind the railroad is across the street so you will hear the train often throughout the night. The trains don't sound their horns, so that helps.
