About

The Rodeway Inn Flagstaff-Downtown is a straightforward budget hotel on Route 66, a few blocks from Flagstaff's historic downtown and close to the Amtrak station. It's the kind of place people book for one thing: a cheap, convenient bed on the way to or from the South Rim, about 80 miles north.

What to expect

Rooms are basic and, by multiple recent guest accounts, showing their age. Google reviewers have flagged inconsistent housekeeping and maintenance issues, and several mention unexpected charges added at check-in on top of a prepaid rate, so it's worth confirming the total cost and any pet or incidental fees directly with the front desk before you arrive. The hotel carries a 2.5-star rating from over 600 Google reviews, reflecting a mixed track record. On the plus side, guests consistently point to the walkable downtown location and the affordable price point, and the hotel includes complimentary Wi-Fi and parking.

Good to know

  • Location: 122 Route 66, Flagstaff — walking distance to downtown and the Amtrak station
  • Best for: travelers prioritizing price and location over room quality
  • Note: ask about any additional fees at check-in, since several reviewers report surprise charges

If your priority is a polished stay, look elsewhere in Flagstaff's broader lodging scene; if you just need a low-cost, well-located stop before heading to the canyon, it can work, with eyes open.

It's true what they say you get what you pay for thank God I didn't pay for it. It's melt like curry. The rooms were sad and depressing, and the hotel has probably been there for too long. But if you're into sad, depressing serial killer rooms, i'm sure they can get you a good deal for about $60

The room was about what I expected for the price. Although the hotel is a bit dated, it was clean and comfortable. It was a perfect base for an early morning trip to the Grand Canyon. The location is excellent, right near the train station, with plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance. I also appreciated having a microwave in the room, which made it convenient to heat up food. Overall, it's a great value for a short stay in Flagstaff.

Great location, parking lot is small. Public parking very close.

The room is the size of a closet, it stinks and smells like horse urine, the desk space and sink are the same, the place smells like a stable, there is no closet or dresser, and there is no room service!

If you are looking for the classic “Americana” Route 66 roadside dive motel, this absolutely checks the boxes for nostalgia purposes. You just have to be honest with yourself about what you are looking for and what you are paying for. Dated? Very. There are so many layers of paint on this old location you could probably core sample it back to its 1948 (literally) origins. That said, it is a part of the charm. This place has seen the heyday of American Highway and Car culture going all the way back to the years following the Second World War. And honestly, there is soooo much potential here. They could really lean into that history and turn this into a very cool vintage-chic stop instead of making it feel like a flashback to Schitt's Creek reruns. It needs some love, but deserves some love. The location is one of the best in town. It's within walking distance of the Amtrak train station, the local established parade route, local breweries, restaurants, boutique shops, and plenty of downtown Flagstaff charm. There is constant train traffic through the area, but it was barely noticeable and did not bother us at all, especially with the wall-unit AC running. And by the way, the AC worked great. It was a perfect stay for the 4th of July. We walked to the parade route and spent the day enjoying downtown without having to move the vehicle. Contrary to some other reviews, you absolutely can park a full-size pickup, like a Sierra Denali four-door, or a Suburban-sized SUV in the lot, as long as you are the only one with one. Everyone else will probably do just fine. We will likely stay here again. It is not fancy, and it definitely needs attention, but the location, history, and character give it a kind of charm that is hard to fake.
