A well-kept Route 66 stay steps from the Grand Canyon Railway depot
The Ellsworth Hotel sits right on Route 66 in downtown Williams, an easy walk to the diners, neon signs, and gift shops that make this town a fun overnight stop on the way to the Grand Canyon Railway depot. It's part of Choice Hotels' Ascend Collection, and with a 4.6 rating from 126 reviews, it's one of the better-reviewed places to stay in town.
Guests consistently mention clean, spacious rooms and an older building that's been nicely renovated. There's a small pub with a pool table on site, and free laundry available on each floor — a genuinely useful perk for a multi-night road trip. A few reviewers note the trade-off of staying in a historic building: sound carries between rooms, and passing trains can be audible at night. Don't expect a pool or included breakfast; amenities here are kept simple.
For a town this size, it's a solid, well-kept option — reviewers consistently praise the front-desk staff and room cleanliness, which counts for a lot on a canyon road trip.

I think everything went smoothly, both at check-in and check-out. The rooms were comfortable and the location is highly recommended. Parking is available with some covered spaces. Breakfast is not offered at the hotel.

What was good: the location is on Route 66 and is close to shops, restaurants, a grocery store and attractions. The rooms are clean and come with a microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker. The windows have a shade to filter light and another blackout shade. There is a bar with a pool table on site. This location does have wi-fi in for guests. In the middle: the mattress is very firm with soft pillows. There is a walk-in shower, no bath tub. What wasn’t great: the rooms are very small. The parking spaces are also small. The mattresses shift around and we were having to move them back in to place. The tv was not easy to navigate but I am not tech savvy. There is no closet just hooks on the wall (there are hangers). There is nothing to hold on to in the shower if you lose your footing though the shower is quite large.

Hotel was ok, though they had completely messed up all our reservations, and weren’t working hard to fix them. Morning coffee isn’t great so go elsewhere for it.
