About

The Overland Hotel sits right on Route 66 in downtown Flagstaff, an easy walk from the historic district's shops and restaurants and about 80 miles from the South Rim — a solid, no-frills base if you're staging a Grand Canyon trip from the regional hub rather than the smaller gateway towns. Google's own summary calls it an "unpretentious hotel," and that's a fair read: this isn't a resort, it's a straightforward motor-court-style motel with the basics covered.

What to expect

Reviewers consistently point to two things: renovated rooms and the front desk staff. Recent updates brought fresh paint, wood-look flooring, redone bathrooms, and large TVs to many rooms, and several guests single out the housekeeping and front-desk team by name for going out of their way to help. Complimentary continental breakfast (pancakes, muffins, cereal, coffee) and free Wi-Fi and parking are included, along with on-site BBQ grills. That said, the property has drawn a handful of serious recent complaints about construction disruption and room conditions, so it's worth confirming current status directly with the hotel before booking, especially if you need an ADA-accessible room.

  • Location: 801 W Route 66, Flagstaff — downtown, walkable to Route 66 attractions
  • Rating: 3.5 stars from 683 Google reviews, reflecting a mixed but often warm guest experience
  • Good for: budget-conscious travelers wanting a downtown Flagstaff base rather than a highway exit motel

Call ahead if you have accessibility needs or are traveling during a renovation push — but for a standard overnight stop on the way to or from the canyon, past guests describe it as a good value with a comfortable bed and better breakfast than most of the competition in town.

Perfect two-night stop for our Grand Canyon trip. Clean, fresh-smelling rooms, great water pressure, and comfortable beds. We rested well both nights—highly recommend. Parking was full when we returned from Sedona. The staff assisted us parked our car. More than appropriate for that!

The hotel has been renovated, and the rooms are in decent condition. It’s a good choice for a one-night stay while traveling.

Fantastic stay—highly recommend! We had a wonderful stay at Overland Hotel. The room was incredibly clean, the bed was comfortable, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The location was also perfect for exploring the area. We will definitely be back!

They gave a none smoking room we did not smoke in the room they charged us a hundred dollar deposit for absolutely no reason even after going outside to smoke I would not recommend anyone stay especially if you have to pay a deposit or if you want your deposit back.
