Alamo Rent A Car

Airport car rental for the drive up to the canyon

(162)
Flagstaff, AZ

About

Alamo's Flagstaff counter sits right at Pulliam Airport, making it a straightforward first or last stop for anyone flying into the regional hub before heading north to the canyon. With 160 Google reviews and a 3.9 rating, it's a solid, if uneven, pick — several travelers describe quick counter service and newer vehicles, while at least one review flags a frustrating surprise-fee experience at pickup, so it pays to read your reservation terms closely before signing.

What to expect

Reviewers who had good experiences point to friendly staff and fast turnaround on both ends — one described being in and out within 15 minutes at pickup and under 5 at return, while another praised the mileage and condition of their rental car. The common thread in the stronger reviews is a rep who explains the paperwork clearly, so it's worth asking upfront about insurance and any add-on charges if you want to avoid the pricing complaints other renters mentioned.

  • Location: 6200 S Pulliam Dr, Flagstaff — inside Flagstaff Pulliam Airport
  • Hours: 8:00 AM – 8:30 PM daily
  • Good for: travelers flying into Flagstaff who want a car for the ~80-mile drive up to the South Rim

Booking ahead through Alamo's site and confirming the total price before you arrive is the simplest way to sidestep counter surprises.

This isn't primarily about Flagstaff, but about the rental company in general. Stay away from this shady outfit. If you have a problem, you really have a problem. Unfortunately, you can't give zero or negative stars. Our rental car had a problem on the road (the charging system). The vehicle was towed, and we were repeatedly promised that a replacement car would be delivered to our hotel in Page that same day. We waited all day in vain. We kept being told, "The vehicle is on its way." None of it was true. Only after more than 25 phone calls, countless empty promises, and hours of waiting did we finally get a replacement car around 10:00 PM. In the meantime, we were repeatedly put off or simply hung up on. We even had to search for solutions ourselves with other rental companies and through Check24 because Alamo offered absolutely no reliable help. We were practically stranded, even though we absolutely had to continue our journey the next morning. No one could give us a definitive answer as to when, or even if, a replacement vehicle would arrive. In the end, a driver finally brought a Jeep late that evening – but only after a whole day of stress, uncertainty, and wasted vacation time. This is no way to treat customers. When everything works, Alamo might be okay. But as soon as a problem arises, their customer service seems completely overwhelmed. For us, this was by far the worst experience we've ever had with a car rental company. We will definitely avoid Alamo in the future and cannot recommend them.

The service was great, it was easy to get and return the car. That's a major benefit of renting from a smaller market airport. Everyone was super nice and helpful. My car had broken down and I needed a car for a day to get to a meeting.

I can’t say enough good things about the Alamo/Enterprise team at the Flagstaff Airport, especially John and Angel. We’re from Michigan and were on a cross-country family adventure. We flew one-way to Las Vegas for a few days of fun, then planned to road-trip home while searching for a rust-free truck to buy. Our original rental was only booked from Las Vegas to Flagstaff because we expected to find a truck within those three days. Unfortunately, we didn’t find the right one. We assumed it would be easy to rent another one-way vehicle from Flagstaff to Michigan—but we quickly learned that wasn’t the case. The local Budget location had nothing available, so we took an Uber to the airport, where I had reserved a vehicle through Expedia. To our surprise, three rental counters were completely out of one-way vehicles. Alamo was our last stop, and that’s where everything turned around. John immediately put us at ease. Even though they were short on vehicles, he assured us that once the day’s flights were taken care of, he would make sure my husband, daughter, and I had a vehicle to get home to Michigan. True to his word, he and Angel somehow found us a rate that was much lower than we expected, and treated us with genuine kindness throughout the entire process. Travel can be stressful, especially when you’re over 1,800 miles from home and your plans suddenly fall apart. John and Angel turned what could have been a disaster into a positive experience we’ll never forget. I even called today just to thank them personally because their exceptional customer service deserved to be recognized. We had a wonderful conversation, and it reminded me that there are still people who truly care about helping others. If you’re renting a vehicle in Flagstaff, I wholeheartedly recommend the Alamo/Enterprise team. John and Angel were truly angels for our family. Thank you for helping us continue our journey home!
