Kanab Airport

Kanab's general aviation gateway to the North Rim

(20)
Kanab, UT

About

Kanab Airport is a small municipal field on the edge of town, the practical option for pilots flying themselves in for a Grand Canyon North Rim trip, roughly 80 miles south, or on to Zion, Bryce, and the Vermilion Cliffs. Reviewers consistently call it clean, new, and well run, with a courtesy car on hand for the short hop into Kanab and Uber also available as a backup. The terminal has a small lounge, a conference room, a microwave, and clean bathrooms - more comfortable than you'd expect for a field this size.

Good to know

  • Rating: 4.7 stars from local and visiting pilots
  • Courtesy car available for getting into Kanab
  • One reviewer's advice: bring tie downs
  • Phone: (435) 644-2299

It's a general aviation airport, not a commercial terminal, so there's no scheduled passenger service - this is strictly for private and charter pilots. Confirm fuel service, hours, and any current operational details directly with the airport before you fly in.

Sadly, I have had horrible experience with this airport, and if I could give them a negative review, I would. I’m living in a rural area right now and have experienced a TON of disrespectful and harassing treatment from the planes at this location over my place. The issue is a constant bombardment of very low flying airplanes and helicopters, as in just over the treetops, flying multiple times over my place in a short period. I have evidence of how low they get, and I’ll add them once I get the okay from Google. For instance, I’ve had a single plane fly right over the top of my place 9 times in a 30 min period--8:42, 8:46, 8:51, 8:55, 9:00, 9:05, 9:09, 9:14, 9:19 AM (6-22-2024), and 10 times on 8-21-2024 (7:45ish, 7:52, 7:59, 8:04, 8:11, 8:19, 8:28, 8:32, 8:36, 8:44 AM). When I'm at my back door, he flies straight at my back door. When I'm at my back window, he flies straight at my back window. I don’t even need to go outside to get evidence of it. And yes, I have plenty of evidence of it! This type of behavior isn’t just a hit and miss situation. It is a regular occasion. I’ve seen planes fly at a decent level, so I know they don’t have to fly this low or this often over just one location. I’ve contacted Jeff Turner about the situation and was told that I’m in their flight path. So basically, they can fly as low and as often as they’d like as long as I’m in their flight path? I have evidence of these proceedings and the FAA is very aware of the situation and information. I have also contacted Jeff about this and have the texts to verify it if needed. Thus, if Google wants to verify it, please feel free to do so.
