Best Time to Visit Zion FAQ

When is Zion least crowded?

Zion is least crowded in the dead of winter — January, February, and December all earn the top crowd rating, with quiet trails and snow dusting the rims. June and July are the most crowded, so for cool-season solitude without snow, late fall (November) is the next-quietest stretch.

What is the best month to visit Zion National Park?

October is the best overall month to visit Zion. It pairs the year's best weather — mild temperatures and fall colors — with all trails open and only moderate crowds. April, May, and September are the strong runners-up for a great all-around trip.

When is Zion the busiest?

Zion is busiest in early summer, with June and July seeing the heaviest crowds of the year despite the extreme heat. Spring (May) and the August peak are also crowded. If you want to avoid the masses, skip June and July.

What is Zion's weather like month by month?

Zion's canyon floor swings from cold winters (January highs near 52°F, lows near 29°F) to scorching summers (July highs around 100°F). Spring warms steadily — April highs near 73°F — while fall cools off comfortably, with October highs near 76°F. Summer brings monsoon storms; winter brings occasional snow.
